In this incredible blog from Action Jackson, he shares why acts of kindness to self, others, and the wider community can make the world happier for everyone.
I’m here to shatter that myth in a world that often perceives Happiness as an elusive treasure. As the self-proclaimed “UK Ambassador for Happiness,” I’ve made it my life’s mission to embrace and live the principles of Happiness, and guess what? It’s not reserved for the eternally optimistic few; it’s for all of us.
Now, you might be thinking, “Happiness? That’s for dreamers!” But hold on tight because I’m about to share some practical, tried-and-true techniques to boost your Happiness. But remember, this isn’t a mere read-and-forget exercise – it’s a call to action.
Recently, I issued a happiness challenge to a group of headteachers. At first, they resisted like a cat avoiding a bath, but as they saw the simplicity and effectiveness of these techniques, they wholeheartedly embraced them. One headteacher even involved her two kids, transforming her perspective on life and work.
So, without further ado, let’s delve deeper into the five happiness hacks that will have you radiating joy:
- Trophy List – Celebrate Your Achievements: Make a list of your life’s achievements, big and small. This isn’t about bragging but acknowledging your hard work, dedication, and progress. Reflecting on your accomplishments can provide tremendous fulfilment and motivation to reach new goals.
- Gratitude List – Embrace Thankfulness: Jot down daily things you’re grateful for. Getting caught up in life’s challenges is easy, but focusing on what you’re thankful for shifts your perspective. It highlights the positive aspects of your life and can help you find contentment in the everyday.
- Dance – Move and Groove: Happiness isn’t just an emotion; it’s a physical state. Just four minutes of dancing can trigger the release of endorphins, those feel-good chemicals in your brain. Plus, dancing is known to help detoxify your body, clearing it of stress and tension. So put on your favourite tunes and let loose!
- Silence – Find Inner Peace: Amid life’s chaos, take a mere 60 seconds to sit in silence. This short pause allows you to reconnect with yourself, quiet your mind, and regulate the connection between your head and heart. It’s a small investment with substantial mental clarity and emotional balance returns.
- Pose – Power Up Like a Superhero: Stand tall and strike a superhero pose for two minutes. Believe it or not, this simple act can increase testosterone levels in your system, boosting your confidence and overall Happiness. It’s a quick and effective way to give yourself an emotional lift.
Now, as a bonus tip, you don’t have to tackle all these techniques at once. Choose one that resonates with you and practice it diligently for seven days. You’ll be amazed at how it can transform your mood and productivity.
In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to neglect our Happiness. But I challenge you to make time for it because you matter, and the people you serve need you at your happiest. Embrace these techniques, even when you don’t feel like it – dance through the struggles, sing when frustration strikes, and find solace in silence.
Remember, this isn’t about denying reality; it’s about recognizing your power to choose how you respond to external circumstances. Your Happiness is in your hands.
And if, despite all your efforts, you need an emergency happiness boost, I have a prescription for you: spend some quality time with my trusted therapists, Ben & Jerry. Their ice cream has an uncanny way of turning a bad day into a sweet one.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’d love to hear which of these steps resonates with you. Reach out on Twitter @ActionJackson – let’s continue the conversation.
